Today's technology

On Monday 29 August 2016
Teacher came to class and called on students for answers. Then teacher let us talked about the topic that she assigned us yesterday  “What technologies did you use to learn English?”. I talked with friend who sat next to me. He was Natthapol. We had the similar idea. 
We used social media to learn English.

After discussion teacher picked someone up to share their own idea about it and then she let us to wrote semantic web on the board about “Technologies enhancing English learning” to shared our ideas.

Teacher gave us the hand out and let us to do exercise in hand out.
Pre-Reading1:  solve the anagrams 
Pre-Reading2: put the activities in order of how enjoyable they are to do.

After doing the exercise teacher let us to read “Profcasts”. It was a lecture that teacher upload it online for their students. Then answer questions and did exercise about this topic
After finishing we started the new topic “Essential Skills”. It about how different between CD and Vinyl that people talked online on that website. Then did exercise and answer the questions. Teacher let us summarize that topic and sent the representative of each group to present it to class .

In my opinion today’s lesson was not too difficult but not too easy too because it about vocabularies and we have to analyze for the answer. For me I felt tired and sleepy sometime because the class too long but I can control myself keep studying until finished the class.

The strategies that I used today was previewing, scanning, skimming, predicting, finding the keywords and locate it in paragraph, finding the reference and guessing words meaning from the context.

For me I use “Twitter” to follow celebrities who good at English or English teacher such as Aj. Adam Bradshaw (@AjarnAdam), Andrew Biggs(@andrewbiggs), Kanatip Soonthonrak(@LoukgolfLG) etc. Most of their twit  they wrote about English how to pronunciation each words, news headline, vocabularies something like that. I think it easy to learn and get knowledge from this way. It make me get knowledge and fun at the same time. It very interesting way to learn English.Not only Twitter but also every social media such as Facebook, Youtube, Line etc. It can be the way that help me to good at English.

Natural Disaster (continued)

On Monday 15 August 2016, our university had “graduation rehearsal” so we have to made up class on Sunday 28 August at 1 pm. First of all, teacher came in class and check that who present or absent. And then started the lesson “Natural Disaster” continued from last Monday. Teacher let us talked about the words about disaster and taught us how to pronunciation each word correctly by listening from http://dictionary.cambridge.org/. I think this website it very useful, made me pronounce the words correctly and can use it for free didn’t pay for a Bath.

After that teacher let us read the news in hand out “Japan earthquake: Tsunami hits north-east” and then talked with friend about this news that what, where, when and results. From this news we summarized that
 What: Earthquake        
Where: North-east of Japan
When: On 11 march 2011
      Results: 350 people were died and about 500 still missing.Cars, ships and building were swept away by a the water.


After reading teacher let us discussed with friends and tried to find answer of the questions. And then teacher gave us a correct answer. We have done many exercises in hand out read the news and decided if each statement was true or false, wrote unfamiliar words and found their meaning, fill in the blank and read many topic of news.




The strategies that I use today was scanning, skimming, finding the references and guessing words meaning from context.

In my opinion the lesson today was quite difficult because there are a lot of unfamiliar words that I never know it before but I found meaning of each word and tried to remembered it. In the other hand there are the easy points such as finding the answer from that news because it was the written answer so I can found and wrote it down..Today we have finished the lesson “Natural Disaster”. and class was finished around half past four.


Today I have fun with this lesson it made me known the news around the world and sometime teacher got pretty angry and complain us that why we talked too much but she returned to smile and kind with us.
 By the way, teacher assigned us to answer that “What technologies did you use to learn English?”, “How?” and prepared it for tomorrow if you don’t prepared it you will not allow to come in the class. That’s all for today. See you next post.

Natural disasters


Today we started the new lesson it was “Natural disasters/News stories”. First of all, teacher showed us this video.

After finished the video teacher told us that worked in group of five described about this video that who, where, when and result. In my group we described that “In this video shows us about natural disaster. It was Tsunami. This disaster happened in Japan on 2011. In this video the water was getting high. People were screaming and shouting. After that the waves were bigger and bigger. The waves came over the wall. A lot of water destroyed houses and cars. I think it was terrible event” and then sent the representative of each group to present it in front of the class.



Afterwards, teacher let us thought the words about natural disaster and wrote it on the board.



                 Today we have learned a lot of vocabularies as follows

Evacuate (v): to move people from a dangerous place to somewhere safe.

Disaster (n): (an event that results in) great harm, damage, or death, or serious difficulty.

Terrible (adj): very unpleasant or serious or of low quality.

Damage (v): to harm or spoil something.

Overflow (v): When a liquid overflows, it flows over the edges of a container, etc. because there is too much of it

Destroy (v): to damage something so badly that it cannot be used.

Casualty (n): a person injured or killed in a serious accident or war

Death toll (n): the number of people who die because of an event such as a war or an accident

Fatality (n): a death caused by an accident or by violence, or someone who has died in either of these ways.

Downgraded (v): to reduce someone or something to a lower rank or position, or to cause something to be considered less important or valuable.

We got new lesson hand out from teacher. There are new stories and questions of each story. Teacher let us to read and wrote the summary by ourselves and answered the questions.


The strategies that I used today were skimming, scanning, guessing words meaning from the context and finding the references.

                                                  

I thought it was a good lesson because I will got the news not only Thailand but also around the world. It made me know what happening in our world.


In my opinion this lesson was quite difficult for because there are difficult vocabularies so i solve the problem by look out the meaning in dictionary   and I have to describe it in English but I will practice more and more. I’m sure I can do it. Bye Bye

A Healthy Diet Continued

On Monday 8th August 2016. I arrived at classroom HS308 at 8.30 a.m.  Today we learned again about "healthy diet".

First of all, teacher told us to work in group of 4. The members of my group were Bunyarat, Supaphan, Sittichai and me. We discuss about Foods pictures that we had. We discussed about ingredients, healthy or unhealthy, why?

Sittichai had honey toast and fruits salad pictures.

We spent the time to discuss around 10 minutes. After that, teacher assigned us to plan about “Weekly Healthy Diet Planner”. We planed about what we will eat in each day and then wrote it on the paper. After that teacher told us to sent a representative of each group to present in front of the class.

                      

 For my group Sittichai was a representative. 
                                           
After finished about presentation, we started the exercise in hand out. We had many exercise to do. The strategies that I used it were skimming, scanning, guessing words meaning from the context and making inferences. Not only did exercise but also learnt new vocabularies from this lesson.  hink
I thought the difficult was reading the long passages because it difficult to understand but I will practice more to good at English.
          
This lesson made me enjoy reading English and I wanted to know strategies that can made me read English easily.
       
Today I was happy when I studied in this subject because the lesson not too difficult and made me enjoy with activities and exercise.

A Healthy Diet

Monday 1st August 2016           

Today is a first day of my second year student life. Today I have only one class in the morning is “ English Reading Strategies 15511008 ”.
                               
First of all , my teacher Dr.Usa Noytim show us about “ Classroom Rules ” There are 6 rules that we have to agree when we are in the classroom.
1. Be punctual : You have to be on time and if you are late it’s mean you absent.
2. Pay attention to the lesson
3. o not use cell phone in the classroom. ( Except for study purpose )
4. Do not cheat. : Especially, when you do the test.
5. Follow dress code policy.
6. Listen while others are speaking or sharing.
          In my opinion it’s the basic rules when I’m in the classroom. For me I thought it’s very easy to follow.
                                                                 

After that teacher gave us a chance to shared our opinion “ What do you expect about this subject ? ”. I was the one of volunteer who sheared about expectation about this subject. For me after I have studied this subject already. I will develop 4 English skills Speaking, Reading, listening especially, writing skill. And I thought I can read English better than now and I hope that I will get a lot of strategies that can make me read English like a professional.
                                                             

I know that there are a lot of strategies can use when we read English but strategies that I used to use when I read in English is skimming and scanning. I think it’s basic strategies for reading. It’s make me can read English in a short time and I can got it. And one more strategies is guessing words meaning from context because I did not want to stop reading and open the dictionary it’s waste my time. I thought guessing words meaning from context it can save my time when I read.
                                                                

 After finished, teacher gave me an activity to ask and answer with partner.
1. What do you read in your daily life ?
2. Do you read in English ?
If your partner say yes : What do you read ?
If your partner say no : why not ?
   
 Today my partner is Kittikarn she said that in her daily life she read cartoon in English because cartoon that she like it translate in English version before Thai version. If she can not stand for it she have to read in English.
                                                      
         After finished, Teacher let’s us to did mind mapping on the board about strategies for reading.
1. Skimming              2. Scanning 3. Restatement
4. Previewing            5. Guessing words meaning from the context
6. Finding references7. Making inferences
And then teacher gave us a course syllabus and explain it for us how to get the point, what will we learn etc.

I learned about food and analyses food that healthy or unhealthy. I learned about vocabulary, did exercise “ filled the blank ”. Grammar for today is present continuous and then did exercise.           

Today teacher assigned homework for us to take 10 food photos and also describe each food, print out and bring it on next week. But the biggest homework is “ Blogger ” I have to write blog in English every week all this semester there are 16 weeks . I thought it difficult but it is not too difficult for me. I will do it my best. I know that I am not good in English but I will try hard to do that. I will improve my writing skill and I will do homework by myself. Today’s lesson make me happy when I learned because it not difficult and it about food in daily life. It made me hungry when I saw a lot of food photos. That’s all for today. See you next week. Good bye.
